HAZID
HAZard IDentification
Definition

The HAZID review is a methodology to identify hazards in order to plan for, avoid, or mitigate their potential impact. Hazard identification is an important step in risk assessment and risk management.

The HAZID method is suitable for all types of industries and can be applied to almost any system. Various methods have also been developed to enable HAZID to cover every phases of a project, including early conceptual phase, options selection, FEED, etc.

Objective

The HAZID review will identify hazards and safeguards at an early stage in the design of a facility.

The objective is twofold

  • the management of HSE risks during the project development
  • the traceability, as a result of an exhaustive recording, of this risk management.
The HAZID process
follows 4 steps
  • Risk Identification
  • Risk Assessment
  • Risk Improvement (Management & Reduction)
  • Final Risk Checking and Progression to next project phase.
HazOptima

HazOptima provides high quality HAZID reviews based on very effective leaders to head up the HAZOP team.

Our chairmen are highly experienced and completely focused on HSE reviews, having both a Safety and a Process background. This ensures a broad and extensive knowledge of the given industrial context that enables us to guide the team efficiently.

The HAZID reviews can be :

  • qualitative or semi-quantitative,
  • reviewing a facility or a procedure (e.g. installation or commissioning HAZID),
  • analyzing a frozen system or comparing different options,
  • stand-alone or in complement to further analysis (ENVID, HRA, etc.).

Our goal is to ensure the proper procedure for the relevant review at the best time.

Our services deal with HAZID reviews preparationfacilitatingreportingfollow-up and training.

FAQ

What is the result of a HAZID review?

The HAZID report is the documented demonstration of risk acceptability. This can be of a qualitative or a semi-quantitative type. The report shall include the list of actions recommended or mandatory to achieve the acceptable level of risk.

HazOptima reports include a clear and exact record of discussions raised during the review, as well as actions list and dedicated action sheets for easier response and follow-up.

We employ the main software available on the market when carrying out our reviews and more specifically HAZOP Manager developed and produced by Lihou Technical & Software Services.

What is the basic methodology of HAZID reviews?

In few words, the HAZID methodology is the following one:

  • the installations are divided into homogeneous sections, called “areas”,
  • for each area a list of guide-words is systematically applied to identify potential hazards,
  • for each hazard, the team determines its potential causes, consequences and safeguards,
  • the team concludes on the scenario acceptability or proposes actions for improvement or investigation.

This is only the basic process that can be further developed to include risk ranking, actions categorization, scenario selection, options comparison, etc.
